What is Parent Coaching?
Parent Coaching is a deep dive into understanding your family dynamics, working collaboratively towards solutions that resonate on a core level.
A parent coach walks the path with you as you identify your most deeply-held values, foster a healthy relationship with your child(ren), and commit to new patterns of communication and problem-solving.
The problems we face as parents don’t always fit neatly into the boxes addressed by various doctors, therapists, psychiatrists, and others. Sometimes things happen in the family that don’t happen to us, but they still affect us; perhaps we don’t feel therapy is needed per se, or we’re not ready for that commitment, or therapists are unavailable in the immediate term, but we also don’t want to be left alone to figure this out and can use support.
Not every problem is a full emergency, but it can just be useful to have someone to talk to, to help us understand our own feelings and tap into our inner wisdom about how to move forward. If that sounds like you, coaching might be the right fit.
Coaching is not therapy.
While coaching touches on the potential to soften or even heal old wounds, it is not the same as therapy. If you’re struggling with very deep problems or traumas outside my scope, I’ll gladly refer you to therapists who may be able to help. Therapists can help with diagnosing disorders and providing treatment.
In a parent coaching relationship, the goal is to bring awareness to our patterns in order to become more intentional about our beliefs and actions, and keep them aligned with our parenting values.
